Join our partner, the Idaho Native Plant Society - Pahove Chapter for a Presentation: Lava Fire Recovery: Window to a Changing Flora WHEN: Wednesday, November 12th @ 7 pm MST WHERE: Idaho Fish and Game Headquarters off Walnut, entry is in the back - Please note: We are at a new location, the Idaho Fish and Game Headquarters Building. We can't leave the door propped open, so please arrive by 7:00 pm. Title: Lava Fire Recovery: Window to a Changing Flora Description: On September 2, 2024, lightning sparked what would become an intense and explosive wildfire in the West Mountains area of Idaho. Most of the total area burned over just a few days, fueled by hot dry winds and drought stressed timber. The fire burned a remarkable range of habitats and elevations, from shrub-steppe to riparian areas, grand fir forest and even whitebark pine stands at 8,000' elevation! During the spring and summer of 2025, Jessica Irwin conducted limited reconnaissance into the burn areas in order to assess plant diversity of vigor of recovering vegetation. The presentation will share details from her reconnaissance and share details about how the flora of this area is likely shifting due to multiple invasions, and increased wildfire frequency. REGISTRATION: 1) INPS: Pahove Chapter Registration: Not needed to attend. 2) Pre-register with Harris Ranch Wildlife Mitigation Association at www.hrwma.org for class reimbursement.
