Join Boise Brewing for: Science on Tap
WHAT: Boise Science on Tap brings monthly science talks to Boise Brewing, featuring expert speakers for audiences of all backgrounds.
WHO:
Dr. Jennifer Forbey, Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at BSU, will be presenting a talk titled: Understanding and Restoring the Silent Conversations between Plants and Wild Herbivores
Do you wonder how a hummingbird finds your feeder, how a squirrel finds that buried acorn in the backyard, or how monarchs find your newly planted milkweed? It's the hidden world of chemical communication. I will have you experience the chemical signals that have been guiding interactions between our native plants and herbivores since the Pleistocene. I will reveal what our native sagebrush plants are saying to sage-grouse, how that ancient and informative communication is slowly being muted, and share a plan for how to restore the conversations of nature through collaboration among unlikely partners.
