Join Boise Brewing for: Science on Tap
WHAT: Boise Science on Tap brings monthly science talks to Boise Brewing, featuring expert speakers for audiences of all backgrounds. This month: Dr. Jesse Barber Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, BSU- discusses: Phantom Roads and Rivers of Sound: How Noise Reshapes the Natural World
About: Using networks of speakers, Jesse Barber and his team created a road without traffic and rivers without water to isolate how noise alone affects wildlife. From birds and bats to insects, these experiments reveal how profoundly sound can shape animal behavior and ecological communities. Together, they offer a window into sensory ecology—the study of how animals perceive their surroundings and use sensory information to survive—and show why noise is a form of pollution that harms wildlife.
